Boiler fault?

An error code on your boiler: what next?

3 min readPublished on 15 September 2026

An error code is how your boiler says something is not right. The code itself is not a diagnosis: the same digits often mean something entirely different on another make. Your own appliance manual is what counts.

Note the make, model and exact code

Write down the make and model of your boiler and the exact code shown, including any letters before or after the digits.

Note when it appears: while heating, when drawing hot water, or all the time.

Check what the manual says

The user manual explains what the manufacturer advises for each code. Sometimes the cause is straightforward, such as low water pressure.

We deliberately do not publish a general list of codes, because the same code means different things on different makes and models.

One normal reset at most

If the manufacturer allows a reset, carry it out once, exactly as the manual describes. Do not keep resetting: the message is there for a reason.

Does the code come back?

If the same code reappears shortly afterwards, there is an underlying cause that an engineer needs to assess.

Send a photo of the display with your report. That avoids any confusion about the code.

When should you call an engineer?

  • The code returns after one reset as described in the manual.
  • The boiler locks out and will not restart.
  • You smell gas, see water or hear unusual noises.
  • You are not sure what the code means for your appliance.

Want the error code looked into?

Report the fault with the make, model and code. Those details let us prepare properly for the visit.
